PSAT Results and Information NightThe MAHS counseling department will be holding a PSAT Night on Monday, December 19th at 6:00 in the commons area. The student score reports will be distributed at this time. All students who took the PSAT in October should attend this session with at least one parent/guardian. The purpose of the session is to distribute and provide a brief overview of the reports as well as discuss the opportunities students have as a result of participating in the assessment. The session will be brief but informative. No score reports will be distributed prior to this event. We look forward to seeing you there!

Armfield Scholarship now availableThe Armfield Scholarship application is now available. Seven students from MAHS will receive a renewable scholarship ranging from $3000 to $7500 per year, renewable. Physics Scholarship at Wake ForestThe Randall D Ledford Scholarship to study Physics at Wake Forest University is now available. This scholarship is worth $80,000 over four years. Summer VenturesAttention Sophomores and Juniors: applications for Summer Ventures are now available. This is an amazing opportunity to go beyond the traditional boundaries of high school math and science. The program lasts for four weeks and is offered at four different university campuses: Appalachian State, East Carolina, North Carolina Central, and UNC Charlotte. There is no cost for this program. Financial Aid Night November 14thA special workshop on Financial Aid will be offered on Monday, November 14th at 6pm at Mt. Airy High School. Andrea Simpson from Surry Community College will speak about all types of financial aid options and opportunities for students going to either two year or four year colleges and univiersities. Sun Trust ScholarshipHigh school seniors and current undergraduate college students can enter for a chance to win a $1000 scholarship for their educaiton expenses at a college or private career school. Park Scholarship Nominees for NC StateAttention all Seniors who plan to attend NC State. The Scholarshp Committee will meet on September 7th to decide the nominees from our school for the Park Scholarship. This is a scholarship worth $86,000 over four years with many additional opportunities. Two students will be selected who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service and character. SAT Deadline is September 9thAll seniors planning to attend a four year college or universiy, taking the SAT or ACT is required. The next SAT will be given at North Surry High School on October 1st. Deadline to sign up is September 9th. Visit sat.collegeboard.org to set up an account and register for the test. The test center code for NSHS is 34280. To have score reports sent to MAHS for free, enter the code 342780. In addition, you may send score reports to four colleges or universities for no extra charge. Morehead Scholarship Now AvailableAll Seniors are invited to complete a questionnaire to be considered for the Morehead Scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. This scholarship offers full tuition, room and board to the university as well as many other opportunities through the college years. PSAT October 12th The PSAT will be offered at MAHS on Wednesday, October 12th during an extended first period. All college bound 10th and 11th graders should take this 'Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test.' This is a great way to practice for the SAT. Plus, all 11th graders who take the exam will automatically be entered in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. See Mrs. Winters or Mrs. Refvem to sign up. The cost is $14 and checks can be made out to MAHS. Deadline to sign up is Thursday, August 25th.
